His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam is scheduled to attend the 46th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits which will be held from 26th to 27th May 2025 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Malaysia, as Chair of ASEAN this year, is carrying the theme "Inclusivity and Sustainability", which demonstrates ASEAN's commitment to ensure regional resilience and prosperity, as well as to strengthen collaboration in the face of emerging global challenges and external pressures. In addition to the 46th ASEAN Summit, Leaders from ASEAN, the Gulf Cooperation Council (G.C.C) and the People's Republic of China, will also gather for the 2nd ASEAN G.C.C Summit and the ASEAN-G.C.C-China Summit on 27th May 2025, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The Summits will continue to push forward collaborative efforts in implementing the priority areas and key deliverables under Malaysia's Chairmanship of ASEAN, as well as promote closer relations between ASEAN, the G.C.C and China, guided by shared principles and values, commitments; underscore the importance of multilateralism, regional unity, and international law in addressing shared challenges; and uphold ASEAN Centrality in the evolving regional architecture to foster peace, stability, and prosperity in the region and beyond.
The 16th BIMP-EAGA Summit will also be held on the side-lines of the 46th ASEAN Summit. Established in 1994 by Brunei Darussalam, the Republic of Indonesia, Malaysia and the Republic of the Philippines, BIMP-EAGA aims to drive development in remote and underdeveloped areas by focusing on the advancement of a competitive and more environmentally friendly manufacturing sector; creating sustainable, competitive and climate-resilient agricultural and fisheries industries as well as promoting tourism sector.
